The ultra-light and 100% waterproof Cloudburst is the ideal mix of waterproof single-chamber pack sack and lightweight backpack – ideal for water sports, day trips, leisure, or as a second rucksack in your luggage.
The front elasticated shock cord holder ensures a compact pack size and offers attachment options for a helmet or jacket. A carrying handle and a bright interior colour ensure easy handling and a good overview. The contents can also be easily compressed thanks to the roll-top closure.
A lightweight EVA back padding, breathable mesh shoulder straps, and a removable hip belt strap ensure carrying comfort. The recycled, PU-coated material and seam-taped seams make the Cloudburst completely waterproof.
Our Verdict
The Exped Cloudburst 15 Rucksack is built around a simple idea: keep gear dry while minimising weight. At 260g, it feels light and unobtrusive on day walks, yet the fully waterproof construction provides far more confidence in sustained rain than most lightweight packs.
The 2026 update brings worthwhile refinements, particularly to the shoulder harness and back panel. The revised design carries more comfortably than earlier versions, while the improved pocket layout makes frequently used items easier to access on the move.
What I particularly like is its flexibility. It works well as a hiking daypack, but the waterproof construction makes it equally at home on a canoe trip or mountain bike ride. It can even double as a dry bag for transporting a sleeping bag or spare clothing into camp before being pressed into service as a lightweight pack for day walks.
