Our Verdict
The Salewa Pedroc 3 DST Light Pants are lightweight softshell trousers for speed hiking, travel and warm-weather hill use. At 203g (Medium), they feel light and streamlined, while the Durastretch fabric has enough give for steeper paths and faster movement.
Salewa was founded in Munich in 1935 and is now based in Bolzano, in the South Tyrolean Dolomites. That alpine background is evident here in trousers built around low weight, movement, and practical mountain-weather resistance.
The gusseted crotch and adjustable waistband both help with comfort on the move, especially under a pack. The pocket layout is also well-judged for fast hiking, with two open-hand pockets, a zippered thigh pocket, and a rear mesh pocket for quick-access storage.
The light fabric means I would not treat them as rough scrambling trousers, but for summer hillwalking, hiking, travel and lightweight backpacking, they work well.
