Our Verdict
The Salewa Pedroc 2 PTX 2.5 Light Jacket is a very light waterproof shell for moving quickly in changeable conditions. At 163g (Medium), it is easy to carry, but the 20,000mm water column and 40,000g/m²/24h breathability rating give it more substance than a basic emergency jacket.
Salewa was founded in Munich in 1935 and is now based in Bolzano, in the South Tyrolean Dolomites. That alpine background is evident in a jacket built around low weight, movement, and mountain weather.
I like the snap-button front venting, as it lets you dump heat without opening the jacket completely. The athletic fit keeps it neat on the move, while the chest pocket and packable pocket keep the feature set simple.
The light hood, single pocket, and lack of pit zips mark it out as a fast-hiking, lightweight backpacking shell rather than a heavy-duty waterproof.
