The Zephyr 2 is a 2-person hybrid tent with two vestibules. Thanks to its external poles, it can be pitched and taken down particularly quickly. Two aluminum hub connectors integrated into the carbon pole frame provide excellent wind stability. An additional ridge pole offers reliable rain protection for the inner tent. Integrated fabric sleeves at each end of the ridge pole allow trekking poles to be inserted, further enhancing stability in challenging weather conditions. With its lightweight and compact pack size, the Zephyr 2 is perfectly suited for backpacking and bikepacking. The inner tent offers a comfortable sitting height and is largely made of mosquito mesh, ensuring excellent ventilation while keeping insects out. The durable 39 cm carbon pole segments ensure maximum strength with minimal weight. Combined with tear-resistant, long-lasting materials, the Zephyr 2 is a reliable hike & bike tent built to withstand demanding conditions.
Our Verdict
At 1,259g (without pegs and bags), the Wechsel Zephyr 2 keeps weight low for a freestanding, two-person tent with two doors and vestibules. Two 64–65cm sleeping mats will fit, although they take up most of the internal floor space, leaving the vestibules to handle packs, footwear and other equipment.
The external carbon frame allows the inner and flysheet to pitch together, keeping the predominantly mesh inner protected during wet-weather setup. Its 39cm pole sections also give it a compact 40 × 15cm packed size, making it well-suited to bikepacking or splitting between two backpacks.
The ridge pole improves the sitting room and extends over the entrances, while the two vestibules make access and gear storage far easier when sharing. Fabric sleeves at either end of the ridge pole allow trekking poles to reinforce the structure in stronger winds.
The main body is freestanding, although both vestibules still need pegging out to provide their full space and weather protection. The mesh inner should offer plenty of ventilation in warmer conditions, while the 25D floor provides a more reassuring base than the lightweight 10D flysheet.
The footprint (sold separately) includes a tub-shaped section that covers half of the vestibule, helping to keep backpacks, footwear and other equipment dry and clean in poor weather. It is a nice addition that improves the tent’s usability, although I would have preferred to see it included as standard.

- Quick setup: Pitching the Zephyr is fast and easy by connecting the pole frame and the flysheet. The inner tent is already attached to the flysheet. In case of setting the tent in the rain, the inner tent will be safe from getting wet. If the ground is too hard, you don't necessarily need to fix the tent with pegs. The construction is free-standing, only the vestibule has to be tensioned.
- Trekking pole holders: There are fabric sleeves at both ends of the ridge pole for securing trekking poles. This reinforces the tent's structure and improves its stability in windy conditions – ideal for challenging weather.
