More familiar underfoot, without losing the Altra feel

Our Verdict
If you have been wanting to try Altra but have been put off by the brand’s traditional zero-drop designs, I think these are the shoes to consider. The Experience Wild 3+ feels like one of the more convincing modern Altra trail shoes for long-distance hiking and steady trail miles.
The updated EGO P35 midsole gives the shoe a softer, smoother ride than earlier versions, while the 4mm drop makes the transition feel far more natural for hikers used to conventional trail shoes. I also think the Vibram Megagrip outsole changes the shoe considerably, especially on wet rock and mixed UK trails, where previous Altra outsoles could feel inconsistent.
The roomy forefoot still allows proper toe splay without the shoe feeling excessively wide through the midfoot, and the updated heel collar improves comfort over longer days.
