A compact two-person tent built around a stiff carbon frame

The Aeron 2 is a symmetrical, semi-free-standing hybrid tent for two persons. Two aluminium hubs on the carbon poles ensure high wind stability and make it a reliable companion on trekking tours, bike packing adventures, or camping trips. First, the inner tent is set up. Then the flysheet is stretched over it. The additional ridge pole provides rain protection for the inner tent. At the ends of the ridge pole there is a fabric quiver that serves to hold a trekking pole. This further improves wind stability. The semi-free-standing design not only makes it easier to set up, but also allows for flexible camping on different surfaces. The inner tent is mostly made of mosquito netting. Steeply rising walls ensure that the full lying surface of 215 cm can be used optimally. Large mesh pockets at the foot and head ends provide space for small items of equipment. The combination of durable 39 cm carbon pole segments and tear-resistant materials makes the Aeron 2 the perfect choice for hike & bike adventures. Our Verdict
At 1,138g (without pegs and bags), the Wechsel Aeron 2 keeps the weight low for a semi-freestanding, double-wall tent. Its 39cm carbon pole sections give it a compact 40 × 15cm packed size, making it particularly appealing for bikepacking or sharing between two smaller packs.
The predominantly mesh inner provides plenty of airflow in warmer conditions, while the steep end walls help preserve the usable length of the 215cm floor. Large mesh pockets at the head and foot provide practical storage for smaller items without taking up sleeping space. Sadly, at 125cm wide, it won’t comfortably accommodate 2 wide pads ( but you might be able to squeeze them in)
It pitches inner-first, with the flysheet added once the carbon frame and inner are standing. The tent still needs pegging and tensioning to achieve its proper shape.
I particularly like the fabric sleeves at each end of the ridge pole, which allow trekking poles to reinforce the structure in stronger winds. The ridge pole also creates more usable headroom.
The 10D sil/sil fly cannot be factory seam-taped, so seam sealant is included, and Wechsel recommends treating the seams before use.
The footprint (sold separately) includes two tub-shaped sections that cover half of the vestibule, helping to keep backpacks, footwear and other equipment dry and clean in poor weather. It is a nice addition that improves the tent’s usability, although I would have preferred to see it included as standard.
