Our Verdict
At 131g (UK12), the Montane Women's Volantis 4in Shorts are very light, but the GRANITE STRETCH Nano fabric gives them more structure than basic running shorts. The 4-way stretch and short 4-inch inseam make them easy to move in, whether you are hiking quickly, running, or travelling. I like the low-profile waistband, as it keeps bulk down under a pack, while the internal adjustment helps fine-tune the fit.
The two concealed zipped hand pockets are a useful detail, giving secure storage without making the shorts feel overbuilt. The short cut means they offer less coverage than more traditional walking shorts, but that is also part of their appeal in warm weather.
