From fast packing for multi day hikes, the GRANITE STRETCH NANO nylon double weave fabric offers exceptional stretch and durability in a lightweight package. With comfort of the move the priority, the low profile waistband works alongside the articulated fit to allow unrestricted movement. Zipped hand pockets ensure carry is safe when moving dynamically, whilst the discreet zipped thigh pocket is constructed to maximise ease of movement. Internal hem adjustment gives adaptable fit options depending on the activity, combining together to be the go to pant for the trail.
Our Verdict
At 216g (Medium), the Montane Volantis Pants are very light for softshell trousers, making them a good option for fast hiking, backpacking and long trail days where movement matters. The GRANITE STRETCH Nano fabric has enough stretch and recovery for steep steps and quick movement, while still feeling more protective than very thin summer walking trousers. I like the zipped-pocket layout, with secure hand pockets and a discreet thigh pocket that provides useful storage.
The elasticated waistband and internal drawcord keep the fit clean under a pack, though some may still prefer a more traditional belt system. The internal hem adjustment is a nice touch for tidying the lower leg around footwear. A fast-drying, warm-weather pant.
