The Mountain Core Jacket combines our Flexile stretch nylon shell with a PrimaLoft ACTIVE 125g lining. Both fabrics offer great air permeability, so can be worn in conjunction with a shell layer without loss of performance. Peaked hood and extended cuffs keep out even the worst weather, and hand warmer pockets add to the cosy feel.
Our Verdict
At 359 g (UK 12), the Mountain Core Jacket provides efficient warmth without sacrificing breathability. The PrimaLoft Active insulation performs well during exertion, releasing excess heat while still providing insulation when conditions cool. The fit is close and low bulk, making it sit neatly under a shell, though it leaves less space if worn over heavier layers. The stretchy nylon face fabric provides good mobility, while the peaked hood and extended cuffs offer functional coverage. Handwarmer pockets are positioned for comfort, though they are not as accessible under a pack belt. Durability is reasonable for a lightweight piece. As a mid-layer for cold, fast-moving conditions, it strikes a strong balance of warmth, packability and all-round usability.
