Our Verdict
At 127g (UK 12), the Patagonia 2026 Women’s L/S Capilene Cool Merino Blend Shirt is light, soft and comfortable against the skin. The 65% merino and 35% recycled-polyester fabric regulates heat well, resists odour and dries faster than a typical pure-merino top.
The fit is close enough to layer cleanly without feeling restrictive, while the set-in sleeves allow easy movement. Side vents stop the hem gripping around the hips, and the slight drop tail adds useful coverage beneath a rucksack.
It works well as an active base layer in mild or changeable conditions, while the understated styling also makes it suitable as a pyjama top or clean town shirt on multi-day hikes. The fabric is quite fine, though, so it will need more care around rough surfaces and pack abrasion.
