This is such a nice, next-to-skin base layer that doesn’t irritate you no matter how hard you exert yourself.

Our Verdict
The Capilene Cool Merino Shirt stands out for how natural it feels against the skin while still behaving like a technical baselayer. The merino-polyester blend is the key here. It gives the fabric a softer, less synthetic feel than many lightweight tees, while helping it hold its shape and dry faster than pure merino options. At 118g (Medium), it feels noticeably light without becoming overly clingy or transparent.
The smooth fit layers well under pack straps, and the odour resistance makes it particularly appealing for multi-day hiking and travel. I would just expect a little more care around abrasion and repeated rubbing from vest-style packs.
