A more protective take on the lightweight baselayer
Rab says:
From sun-scorched trails to climbing in the heat, this staple, UV-protective zip tee is built to keep you cool and shield you from harmful rays.
When the sun’s beating down and temperatures are soaring, this technical zip tee is designed to keep you cool, sweat-free, and protected. It’s built with a lightweight, breathable Dryflo™ Solar fabric that wicks quickly and stays comfortable, whether worn as a base or standalone layer. It also offers UPF 40+ sun protection, ideal for exposed trails or climbs with little shade. Finished with an odour control treatment, it’s perfect for multi-day adventures, packing down small and still useable on day two. With a wearable, casual fit, it's a staple tee that every mountain person needs on their kit list.
Our Verdict
The Force LS Zip feels better suited to long mountain days than to outright speed, balancing airflow with noticeably better coverage than lighter layers. The Dryflo Solar fabric feels smooth against the skin, handles sweat well and adds reassuring UPF 40+ protection for exposed trails and hotter conditions. At 143g (UK12), it is still lightweight, though a little more substantial than the Sonic range.
I also think the deep front zip works particularly well here, helping regulate heat once climbs steepen or conditions warm up. It is not the coolest baselayer Rab makes, but for trekking and hillwalking, it feels very practical.
