Our Verdict
The Terra Nova TriPlex Tarp 1 offers an appealing combination of low weight and pitching flexibility. At 269g, it is firmly aimed at minimalist backpackers and bivy users. The compact size contributes to an impressively small packed size, making it a practical choice for fast-and-light trips where pack space is at a premium.
The new TriPlex fabric is the standout feature. The nylon and polyester blend prioritises stability, helping maintain a taut pitch in wet weather while packing down surprisingly small. Reinforced attachment points also provide plenty of scope for experimenting with different setups using trekking poles or alternative supports.
As with any tarp, getting the most from it requires a little more involvement than a conventional tent, but the flexibility is part of the appeal. For solo tarp campers, bivy users and lightweight backpackers, it is a well-considered shelter system that balances coverage, packability and adaptability.
