At 158g, the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Splash Bivy is built for those who’d rather be moving than lounging. Paired with a tarp, it offers a reliable barrier against bugs, splashback, and damp ground—ideal for racing weather or the daylight. The tall DCF bathtub floor inspires confidence in heavy rain, and the mesh top keeps the midges at bay.
The headroom is tight, especially if you use a thick sleeping pad, and it’s clear this bivy was designed more for shelter than lounging. The tapered footbox means mummy-shaped pads are easily accommodated; however, if you prefer a large rectangular mat like me, you may need to rethink your sleep system.
While I wouldn’t choose it for a lazy weekend in the woods, it’s a solid choice when covering ground is the priority and comfort takes a back seat. If I were planning to use the bivi over an extended period, I would use it with a ground sheet.
