Our Verdict
The Black Diamond Orbiter 450 strikes a sensible balance between brightness, portability and battery life. The 450-lumen output is more than enough for most campsite tasks, while the diffused light creates a more pleasant atmosphere than relying on a headtorch.
I particularly like the combination of hanging and tabletop options, which makes it easy to position wherever light is needed. The integrated rechargeable battery can also top up electronics, adding a little extra utility without complicating the design.
The colour modes feel more like a bonus than a key feature, but the adjustable brightness settings are genuinely useful. For me, this makes the most sense on campsite-based trips, where its broad-area lighting can be fully appreciated. It can also be a welcome addition to a tent during long winter nights when you're spending more time in your shelter.
