Our Verdict
The Mistral Light harness is the first climbing harness I've seen made from Dyneema, the super strong and light material that was developed for the sailing industry. This is one of the lightest harness I've seen and what it lacks in padding or cushioning it more than makes up for in pack size and lightness. This makes it perfect for mixed winter/alpine/ski mountaineering and days were you're not relying on sitting in a comfortable harness. The pack size is tiny and fits in the palm of your hand when folded into its pouch so will take up minimal space in a pack. Although it feels a bit wrong that the material is semi translucent it feels incredible tough and durable. It includes 2 gear loops on the waist and ice screw holders on the leg loops. The metal clips on the leg loops are a clever minimalist design that allow them to be fully opened so it can be put in with mountaineering/ski boots on but feel very secure when fastened.
