Spacious, stable, and surprisingly refined — a solid solo shelter that doesn’t feel stripped back.

Six Moon Designs says:

The unique pole geometry provides a stable and secure structure, with steep walls, plenty of headroom, and 2 generous vestibules, this modern take on a dome tent will deflect high winds, shed rain and snow, and keep you safe from the elements. The spacious 21 square feet of living space and two vestibules providing an additional 16 sq ft of space makes for plenty of room for you AND your gear.

Our Verdict

Roomy, stable, and freestanding — the Lunar Orbiter brings comfort to solo backcountry nights without tipping the scales too far. A great pick when you want more space without a major weight penalty.. At 1,255g all-in, it’s not the lightest, but it makes up for it with stability, generous interior space, and excellent weather resistance. The twin vestibules are genuinely useful, especially when I’ve needed quick access to gear during wet spells or just wanted to cook under cover.

Setup is quick once you’ve done it a couple of times, though it’s slightly awkward in tight pitches due to the wide pole geometry. I appreciate the freestanding design when camping on rocky ground or awkward sites where pegging out isn’t always possible. The ventilation is surprisingly effective for a single-person tent, and the removable gear loft is a nice touch for keeping bits organised.

The biggest faff is the lack of seam sealing out of the box — you’ll need to do it yourself or pay extra, which feels a bit off at this price point.
