The Big Agnes Krumholtz 3 is a versatile, weather-ready tent designed for durability and comfort. It is ideal for wetter, rougher environments where you want a little extra reassurance.

Big Agnes says:

The limited edition Krumholtz 3 is a tent designed for a variety of conditions, with a particularly high water column , light weight, and good ventilation.

The result is the Krumholtz 2 and Krumholtz 3 – dome tents for all-round use in outdoor activities. For pitching in mild weather, only two pegs are required to secure the vestibules. This is especially helpful on rocky ground, such as when paddling in Scandinavian coastal areas.

If it gets windy on a trekking tour in the Scottish Highlands, the tent can be firmly anchored to the ground with up to ten additional pegs.
If, on the other hand, you're headed for warmer Mediterranean climates, you can leave the outer tent in its stuff sack and spend the night under the stars thanks to the freestanding inner tent with excellent ventilation. The tightly woven mosquito net protects you from even the smallest insects like sand flies and midges.

The raised outer tent, roof vent, and large mesh panels on the inner tent ensure good ventilation even in changeable weather. The numerous loops in the inner tent allow for hanging multiple clotheslines for airing clothing or attaching a tent lantern.

A large 3D pocket is located in the foot area. This is where you can store bulky clothing, so it doesn't have to be squashed next to the sleeping mat. The flat ceiling pocket in the head area can hold books, maps, or your smartphone. There are also two side pockets where you can keep a headlamp or your glasses within easy reach.

Our Verdict

In many ways, the Krumholtz feels like a more rugged, weather-focused sibling of the Copper Spur. Designed with the wetter, windier conditions of Northern Europe in mind, it’s built to handle high rainfall and tougher ground without compromising comfort. And if you’re looking for a footprint, the Copper Spur footprint fits it perfectly—a handy bonus if you already own one.

At 2067g (excluding pegs), it’s not aimed at ultralight purists, but I’ve found the balance between weight, space, and robustness spot on for multi-day trips in unpredictable conditions. The 70D nylon floor, with its 5000mm waterproof coating, feels tough and confidence-inspiring—perfect if you’re sharing with a dog or letting the kids take charge for the night without the worry that comes with more delicate ultralight fabrics.

Thanks to the raised fly, roof vent, and mesh inner, ventilation is excellent, even in damp climates. The generous headroom and thoughtful storage, like the oversized 3D pocket at the foot and multiple internal loops, make it a genuinely liveable space. Designed with the wetter, windier conditions of Northern Europe in mind, it’s a tent built to handle high rainfall and tougher ground without compromising comfort.

A well-rounded, durable tent offering reliable protection and comfort for those venturing into wetter, more rugged landscapes.
