A warm waterproof beanie for cold, wet and windy conditions.
Sealskinz says:
A lightweight, fitted, waterproof beanie. A knitted toque hat for the cold. Close-fitting and thermal, the Cley is understated in appearance. Three-layer Aquasealz™ technology ensures waterproofness. A Sealskinz staple.
The term ‘toque hat’ hails from Canada, describing a close-fitting knitted hat. The Cley is our interpretation of a toque hat: a minimalist, lightweight, knitted beanie. This is a versatile beanie hat, low-key and easy to wear. At home in Canadian mountains and more urban settings. Skiing, snowboarding, canoeing, paddling, trekking are all in its remit.
Durability of apparel is at the forefront of our thinking. A well-made accessory will last, reducing the need for further consumption. A greener world relies upon thoughtful, enduring clothing.
Our Verdict
The Sealskinz Cley - Waterproof Cold Weather Beanie weighs 62g (S/M) and uses a three-layer construction with an acrylic outer, Aquasealz waterproof membrane and soft fleece lining.
It gives you decent rain and wind protection without needing to pull a hood up every time the weather turns. The fleece lining also adds useful warmth, making it much more suited to exposed winter conditions than a standard knitted beanie.
The close fit works well under a hood, although the waterproof membrane means it feels less stretchy and breathable than a simple fleece or merino hat.
