Windshells weigh as little as 40 grams (men's medium) but typically hover around 100 grams. They are incredibly compact when not in use, taking up minimal space in a pack or running vest. Made from ultralight nylon or polyester fabrics with DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coatings, they shed light rain and snow, though they are not fully waterproof.

2. Fit and Mobility
● Athletic fit: Best for running and fast-paced activities, as it minimises excess fabric that could flap in the wind.
● Roomier fit: Allows for layering over fleece or insulation, adding versatility in colder conditions.
3. Features: Minimalist by Design
To keep weight to a minimum, windshells are intentionally feature-light, but some models include design elements that enhance functionality depending on your needs:
● Pockets: Many ultralight models omit pockets to reduce bulk, while some include a single chest pocket (often a stash pocket) for small essentials. Heavier models may feature hand pockets, but this comes at the cost of added weight.
