Outdoor Research Winter Hats & Gloves

Sep 10, 2018

There’s something about that first real chill in the air that makes me happy when the mornings turn crisp, the light feels sharper, and I can finally dig out my winter gloves and neck gaiter. It’s that time of year when layering up becomes part of the ritual, and the right kit makes all the difference.

Outdoor Research have long been one of my favourites for winter gear. Born in Seattle, they’ve perfected the art of keeping cold-weather comfort dialled in, whatever the conditions throw at you. But what I’ve always loved most is their eclectic extremities expertise, they really do know how to make exceptional hats and gloves. Every piece shows that blend of technical precision and outdoor know-how: hats that keep the wind out without overheating, gloves that stay warm, breathable, and dexterous even when the weather turns nasty. Whether it’s a long day in the hills or just the morning commute, Outdoor Research hats and gloves deliver reliable warmth, comfort, and performance all winter long.

Adrenaline Gloves & Mitts

Warmth, Protection, and Performance for the Mountains

The Outdoor Research Adrenaline Gloves balance protection and usability through a Ventia waterproof insert and EnduraLoft synthetic insulation. At 138 g (Mens Medium), they feel well-structured without being bulky, providing enough dexterity to handle zips, buckles, and poles without removing them. The fit is close around the hand with a gauntlet that seals securely over sleeves, aided by an effective cinch and pull loop for easy adjustment.

Warmth is well matched to active use in moderate cold, while the breathable lining helps prevent clamminess during exertion. The recycled shell fabric is robust, and the grippy palm provides dependable traction on tools and poles, though it feels lighter than heavy-duty leather alternatives. Stitching and seam finish are tidy, with no weak points visible after repeated use.

Vigor Midweight & Heavyweight Sensor Gloves

Superior Dexterity, Warmth, and Touchscreen Compatibility

The Vigor Sensor Gloves from Outdoor Research are best suited for low-level winter walks, some gentle hill walking, and the commute to work. The palms of the gloves have an anti-slip silicon print for some grip and touchscreen capabilities that work well for basic navigation.

The Vigor Midwieght Gloves have a brushed fleece lining that feels nice against the skin and allows your hands to breathe.  However, if you plan on using them in a more demanding environment, you will need to pair them with an outer glove for additional weather protection and insulation.

While the Vigor Heavyweight Gloves have a tight outer weave that is excellent at blocking the wind, and on the inside, they have a plush gridded fleece lining that is a good insulator while still allowing your hands to breathe.
