Exped Skyline Backpacks

Jul 01, 2025

The new Skyline backpacks are just the right companion for your next hike: lightweight, comfortable, and well-thought-out, down to the last detail. The Skyline backpacks are available in two sizes from 30L to 45L for more demanding mountain tours or multi-day hikes.

Comfortable Air-Flow Back System

Carrying comfort is particularly important for any backpack — this is precisely where the Skyline series scores highly. Thanks to the newly developed Air-Flow back system, the backpack sits comfortably, and your back is optimally ventilated. This means less sweating and more comfort. An additional lightweight steel frame improves load control, and the back length can be individually adjusted.

The Skyline is also a reliable companion for materials: recycled, bluesign®-certified polyester makes it particularly hard-wearing. A PU coating protects against light rain — and if the weather turns, the integrated rain cover keeps the contents dry.

Practical Features

The convenient large zip opening runs from one side to far down the other side and thus offers optimal and quick access to the main compartment. The Skyline offers the option of integrating a hydration system, where access to the compartment is accessible from the outside – no need to open the main compartment. Thanks to cleverly positioned side mesh pockets, water bottles or jackets can also be accessed without taking off the backpack. More internal and external pockets help further organize the pack.

On the outside, a small zip pocket and two side stretch mesh pockets provide additional storage space. Should you store a wet rain jacket, it can be stowed in the elastic and air-permeable front pocket. In addition, the backpack has practical attachment options for your helmet and hiking poles. In wet conditions, an integrated rain cover with a reflective logo will offer an effective water barrier.

*The Skyline 45 has a versatile roll-top closure and lid pocket, ideal for longer hikes or long-distance treks. The lid pocket can be easily removed and used as a belt pouch or left at home.

Our Verdict

With a well-ventilated back panel and adjustable torso length, Exped’s latest Skyline feels noticeably more refined. It’s not aiming for ultralight status, but the spring steel frame and contoured fit make it feel steady and well-balanced. I found the close-fitting shape to be good over technical ground, and the breathable shoulder straps kept things comfortable on steeper climbs.

The vertical zip running the length of the main compartment is a highlight, offering quick access without needing to unpack from the top. Internal mesh pockets help with organisation, and the external stretch options are generous enough for extra layers and items you need close to hand. Choosing to include just one shoulder strap pocket rather than two wouldn’t have been my preference, but the one provided is still practical and holds a phone securely. The fabric is tough, water-resistant, and made from recycled materials.
