Steel traction with a more secure heel connection
Grivel says
Lightweight 12-point steel crampon for classical mountaineering.
Our Verdict
For me, the Air Tech LT New-Matic Evo sits in a very useful middle ground between a walking crampon and something more climbing-focused. The shorter 12-point layout keeps them stable on mixed ground, while the horizontal front points give you enough bite for steeper snow and straightforward mountaineering.
At 820g per pair, they are relatively light for a full steel crampon, and I prefer that approach to saving more weight with aluminium. The New-Matic binding uses a heel lever so that you will need compatible B2-style boots, but once adjusted, it gives a quick, positive fit.
The Antibott plates are another strong feature, helping stop snow from building up underneath. The main compromise is that the shorter points are less aggressive on sustained steep ice, but they make normal winter walking noticeably easier.
