Our Women’s Geon Jacket is an extremely versatile garment. On the one hand, it provides accessible winter comfort for fast-paced cold-weather hiking, scrambling and climbing. On the other, its polyester-based Thermic™ stretch fleece construction enables it to function equally well as a quick-grab insulator for early summer starts and cool rest periods. In addition to its flexible low-bulk fit, the fabric uses a brushed grid backer, increasing warmth and comfort without compromising the jacket’s ability to move moisture through the layers and away from your skin. Other key features include a pair of discreet, harness-compatible zipped hand pockets and an easy-venting full-length YKK® front zip.
With its easy-flex athletic shape and low-profile flatlock seams, the Geon Jacket will sit comfortably between a base layer and an outer shell, keeping you warm and dry when pushing hard in the mountains.
Our Verdict
Rab's Womens Geon Jacket falls into the mid-weight category for fleece. This top provides a good amount of warmth and comfort in a nice looking package. The Thermic stretch fleece is versatile and durable so it's worth the weight over lighter alternatives. It does a good job in regulating heat more effectively than normal, traditional fleece. It allows excess heat to escape when things warm up but in colder conditions that warm air can be trapped in to keep you warm. It is also really good at wicking moisture and dries pretty quickly too so it works really well for a range of outdoor activities.
The Geon combines comfort, performance and value really well. This is a great all-rounder, from acting as an effective mid-layer in cold conditions to being a single outer layer in milder conditions this fleece works as well for hiking as it does for comfortable casual wear. This jacket version loses the hood and cuts weight, without sacrificing the full zip which will appeal to many.
