Our Verdict
The Robens Via 2 UL Tent is an ISPO Award-winning two-person trekking pole shelter with a practical double-wall layout. At 1115g for the fly, inner and poles, it is light for a shelter with two vestibules and proper inner protection.
The silpoly fly is a good choice, as it holds tension better in damp conditions than nylon, while the 5000mm groundsheet rating gives useful reassurance on wet ground. The 2000mm flysheet rating looks modest on paper, but one of our staff took the Via 2 on a very wet Coast to Coast route across Scotland, and it performed really well.
I’m a big fan of trekking pole tents, and one of the main draws is not having to carry a full set of tent poles. With the Via 2, though, you still need to bring a short pole for the foot end. It does serve a real purpose, helping create the vertical end wall, which makes the 220cm length more usable and reduces the chance of your sleeping bag brushing against the fabric. Even so, carrying an extra pole does take away slightly from the simplicity that usually appeals to me with this style of shelter.
Inside, the 130cm width works well for two regular mats, though two wide pads will be tight, which is a shame.
