A Sleek, Minimalist trekking pole, that does not compromise performance or strength even at such a low weight.
Gram-counter Gear says:
Ultra-lightweight, ultra-compact, strong, reliable, trekking poles. Designed with portability, and performance as the key features, these 4 section, carbon fibre trekking poles, are incredibly strong and incredibly light. Built for long distances, steep descents, and rough inclines whilst wearing a heavy pack, our new poles offer unparalleled levels of lightweight strength, and compactness, whilst being simple to operate.
Straight forward, no-nonsense trekking poles. They are definitely minimalistic, with no locking mechanism, instead, they are tension locked by a sturdy piece of cording running through the center of the pole, which then locks into the handle, holding the pole together securely, this cuts down weight dramatically, whilst also being incredibly user-friendly, with little chance of failure.
They pack down incredibly small, because they are split into 4 sections, so that they are only 32cm long when not in use. This makes them incredibly portable when traveling to the trail. I recently travelled by train with my old hiking poles attached to my bag, and it was very unmanageable. These poles eliminate that problem, stashing into the side pocket of my bag, and taking up so little room whilst also being so incredibly light, I don’t notice them at all.
Most other poles in this weight bracket are designed to help ultra runners with balance, these on the other hand, are for use with a full backpack, on long hikes. Because of this, they have to be strong, not just strong, but rugged. I was very impressed how much weight I was able to put on these poles. I’m 14 stone and had a 14k pack on my back, the trail I was on had a lot of ups and downs, on rocky terrain and they performed brilliantly, thanks to the tungsten carbide tips, I didn’t even scratch the sleek mat black finish.
The poles are fixed length so you need to buy the correct length for your size, they come in 105cm, 115cm and 125cm. I’m 6 foot and found that 115cm was the correct height for me. The handles are very comfortable and extend down the pole for use on steep assents. The handles are not adjustable, again this cuts down on weight, but I didn’t find this an issue.
