Our Verdict
The Rab Torque VR Pants are a robust winter upgrade to the original Torque trousers, perfect for fast-paced mountain adventures in colder conditions. With their Matrix™ stretch fabric and Vapour-Rise™ lining, these softshell pants provide an impressive balance of warmth, breathability, and mobility. The zoned lining keeps key areas warm while wicking away moisture, making them well-suited for high-output activities like winter walking or mountaineering.
Having loved the original Torque Pants, adding a dedicated winter version is a natural progression for my gear cupboard. These trousers offer the same excellent freedom of movement with articulated knees and a gusseted crotch but with reinforced fabric at the knees and kick patches for extra durability. The thigh vents are a welcome feature, providing quick ventilation during strenuous climbs, and the YKK zips on the pockets ensure secure storage for small essentials.
At 449g for a medium pair, they remain light while offering the added warmth and protection needed for winter. Whether navigating snowy ridges or tackling steep climbs, these pants deliver the performance you need without compromising comfort or flexibility.
