Our Verdict
The Patagonia Terravia Alpine Pants are lightweight softshell trousers for alpine walking, scrambling and approaches. At 349g (Medium), they sit in a useful middle ground: light enough for long days, but with reinforced panels at the seat and front legs for extra abrasion resistance on rock.
The stretch fabric is the main strength. It gives plenty of movement for high steps and uneven ground, while the articulated cut keeps the fit neat rather than baggy. The low-profile waistband and removable belt are also well judged, sitting comfortably under a pack hipbelt or harness.
The pocket layout is secure and technical, with zipped front pockets, a zipped rear pocket and a thigh pocket positioned to work around a harness.

- Secure-zip front pockets have breathable mesh pocket bags and lie-flat construction for comfort under a harness; one right-thigh zip pocket sits comfortably above the knee and below harness leg loops; one right-back zip pocket adds additional storage
- Cuffs adjust with a low-profile shock cord and cord lock; inseam is 32in, also available in 30in inseam
