Our Verdict
The Buff Tech Fleece Hinged Balaclava weighs 62g and uses a lighter ThermoNet fabric over the head with warmer Tech Fleece around the lower face and neck.
For me, that split construction makes a lot of sense. It gives your head more chance to lose heat while keeping extra insulation around the areas that usually feel the cold first.
I also like the hinged face opening, which lets you drop the covering away from your mouth and nose quickly without removing the whole balaclava. The minimal-seam construction and close fit should also sit neatly under a helmet.
