Our Verdict
At 817g, the Syclon XP 30 strikes a smart balance between weather protection, support and low weight. I particularly like that Rab has paired a well-ventilated back system with a waterproof main compartment, as most waterproof packs sacrifice airflow to achieve waterproofing. The AEROFIT suspension keeps the carry stable and comfortable without making the pack feel bulky, while the roll-top closure gives useful flexibility for changing loads.
Storage is intentionally streamlined, a non-waterproof pocket sits behind the main compartment and this is good for a water bladder or to stash wet gear. The front stash pocket and hipbelt pockets are well placed, and the side pockets are easy to access when you have the pack on. I also think the tougher Spectra ripstop fabric choice gives more confidence than many lightweight packs in this category.
For wet-weather hillwalking, fastpacking and lightweight trekking, it's a fantastic pack.
