The Storm is engineered to light the way in all conditions, featuring robust waterproof/dustproof housing and 550 lumens of bright light. The compact body is ergonomic, with large, easy-to-use buttons. One button turns the lamp on and off and adjusts the brightness of the light, while the other swaps easily between three set modes (low, medium, and high). The Storm also has red, green, and blue colored night vision modes and peripheral white lighting for close-range activities like rigging rappels on drawn-out descents.
The headlamp has our Mode Memory feature, allowing you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness. The Storm rechargeable battery is powered via a waterproof USB-C port that features pass-through charging, which allows the light to be on while boosting your battery.
Our Verdict
The Black Diamond Storm Headlamp weighs 102g and puts out up to 550 lumens, with separate flood, spot and coloured-light modes.
For me, the biggest improvement is the simpler two-button layout. Black Diamond has dropped PowerTap, which I think makes much more sense when you are using the lamp with gloves or adjusting it in the dark.
I also like the USB-C pass-through charging. Being able to run the lamp from a power bank while it is still switched on adds useful reassurance on long winter days.
The IP67 rating provides solid protection from rain and dust, while the 1800mAh battery is serviceable rather than permanently sealed. It feels like a more straightforward Storm than previous versions.
