A straightforward headtorch with flexible battery options.
Black Diamond says:
With 350 lumens of power housed in a super compact, watertight body, the redesigned Cosmo is perfect for urban adventures and overnighters in the woods. The Cosmo is constructed partially from recycled materials, and the user interface includes a second switch for easy lighting mode selection.
Its Dual-Fuel versatility means this headlamp runs on either a rechargeable BD 1500 Li-ion battery (sold separately) or with three AAA batteries.
Our Verdict
The Black Diamond Cosmo Headlamp weighs 89g and puts out 350 lumens, which I think is plenty for camp use, general walking and straightforward night hiking.
You can use three AAA batteries or Black Diamond’s BD 1500 rechargeable battery, with USB-C charging built directly into the lamp when that battery is fitted.
I also like the simple two-button interface, particularly compared with more feature-heavy headtorches. The red-light mode, Mode Memory and digital lockout cover the basics without making the controls fiddly.
It is not aimed at technical night navigation, but for general hiking use, I like how uncomplicated the Cosmo remains.
