With a close-fitting wrap-style hood and excellent articulation, this lightweight, technical baselayer adapts to a range of activities where you need a little more protection but it’s too warm for a midlayer. The highly breathable Dryflo™ Air fabric responds to your output, effectively wicking away sweat and ensuring you stay dry and comfortable on your fast hikes, mountain runs, and demanding ascents.
Our Verdict
The Sonic Hoody feels purpose-built for fast hiking and warm-weather layering, with a fabric that prioritises airflow over warmth. At 137g (Medium), it feels light and unobtrusive on the move, while the Dryflo Air fabric dries quickly and avoids becoming heavy or clingy once damp.
I particularly like the close-fitting hood and hidden thumb loops. Both add a little extra protection in windier conditions without making the layer feel bulky or restrictive. The fit is fairly close and technical, which suits active use well, though those wanting a looser sun-hoody style may prefer something roomier. For high-output hillwalking and mountain days, it is a very well judged layer.
