Our Verdict
The Kangri GTX is a go-to, do-anything shell that feels ready for foul-weather trekking, scrambling, and winter walking alike. Its 70D three-layer Gore-Tex Performance fabric now uses the new ePE membrane, providing full waterproof and windproof performance while reducing its environmental footprint. At 378g (Medium), it feels substantial without being cumbersome, striking a good balance between toughness and practicality.
The jacket shrugs off persistent rain and wind with ease, and the mountain hood offers two points of adjustment, at the crown and around the face, for secure coverage without restricting the field of view. The internal security pocket is handy for keeping essentials safe and close to hand, while the two large hand pockets sit high enough to clear a hip belt. A volumising drawcord at the lower back allows the fit to be fine-tuned over varying layers.
Pit zips help manage temperature on long climbs, maintaining comfort during extended wear. The Kangri’s regular fit leaves room for midlayers without feeling baggy, and its robust build inspires confidence for years of use in the wet, unpredictable conditions typical of British mountains.
