Our Verdict
The Shelterstone uses 115g/m² POLARLOFT insulation beneath a windproof 40D DRILITE Loft shell, so I see it as a proper winter overlayer rather than something designed for sustained high-output use. At 601g (Medium), it is substantial, but the synthetic insulation and weather-resistant outer make a lot of sense in cold, wet conditions.
I like the winter-focused details. The helmet-compatible hood is fully adjustable, the two-way front zip works well with a harness, and the hand pockets have extra insulation. It also has a large internal mesh pocket ideal for gloves or a hat, plus a smaller zipped security pocket.
It is not especially breathable, but that is not really the point. The Shelterstone is built to retain warmth and block wind, with enough weather resistance to cope well with snow, sleet, and damp mountain conditions.
