Our Verdict
The Microlight Windstopper Down Hoody uses 146 g of 700-fill-power recycled down, encased in a GORE-TEX Windstopper shell. At 441 g (Medium), it provides dependable warmth for cold, exposed conditions while remaining light and compressible. The outer fabric blocks wind, though it produces a slight crinkly noise you would associate more with a shell jacket than a down piece.
Fit is slim but mobile, allowing efficient layering beneath. The hood has two face adjustments but no crown cinch, and cannot be tightened when fully zipped, which feels like a missed refinement in a winter jacket. The hem drawcords adjust from either side, and the elasticated cuffs seal effectively around the gloves. Two hand pockets sit behind the down for added warmth, one also doubles as a stuff sack, which I appreciate.
The combination of weather protection, warmth and packability maintains the Microlight’s strong pedigree, making this one of the most versatile technical down jackets in Rab’s current range.
