As an evolution of the famous MegaMat, the LuxeMat is more comfortable, durable, and convenient to use than ever - it's the ultimate mat for your alpine basecamp, car camping, van life, or urban nomads.
The unique wool-insulated, organic cotton topper is exceptionally comfortable. It affords superior moisture management due to the inherent moisture-regulating properties of wool and cotton. The wool is certified to the highest animal welfare standard. The 3D construction and thickness of 10 cm provide the best sleeping comfort. The two flat valves facilitate inflation as well as deflation.
Practical side zippers allow gap-free coupling of one or more mats for sociable sleeping and can transform the LuxeMat into a super-insulated couch for use in the basecamp or van. Smaller items can be stored in the pockets on the sides.
LuxeMat's ripstop shell increases durability and longevity, a core tenet of EXPED's sustainable design philosophy. The core-cover design allows the mat cover to be machine washed. Included is a mini pump and our Sidewinder Bag for quick and easy packing.

Our Verdict
The Exped LuxeMat MW delivers a level of comfort that feels close to a home mattress when camping, with a consistently supportive 10 cm profile and an even surface created by its 3D construction. The organic cotton and wool topper has a soft feel and avoids the clamminess associated with lighter mats. The R-value of 7.2 supports year-round use in the UK.
The removable cover is practical and easy to wash, and the ripstop shell feels durable. Side zips allow tidy coupling, and the pockets help keep small items organised. Inflation is straightforward with the included mini pump, and the large deflation valve makes packing down simpler.
At 3046 g and with a packed size too large for most rucksacks, this is clearly built for base camps, vans or home use rather than backpacking.

ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.
