Six Moon Designs Lunar Duo tent is an incredibly spacious single wall hybrid design which provides complete protection from the elements and insects. The Lunar Duo requires trekking poles to pitch it.
Six Moon Designs says: The Lunar Duo offers the most interior room of any tent in its class and weight range. Dual curved poles located either side create an unique arched roof. Combined with a tent height of 45 inches and width of 54 inches leaves so much interior space you've got room to spare.
The Lunar Duo's two vestibules can be deployed to multiple positions. Fully open, provides maximum cross ventilation, keeping you cool and those pesky mosquitoes at bay. They can be raised or lowered, insuring that you can achieve the optimum configuration for the weather you're likely to encounter. The Lunar Duo's vertical sidewalls prevents rain falling into the tent.
With dual oversize vestibules, each person has plenty of weatherproof storage for gear.
Our Verdict
Six Moon Designs' Lunar Duo Explorer 2P is a single skin hybrid design, by that we mean its basically a single skin tent with dual skin elements because of the mesh inner tent hanging from the 'flysheet'. This type of design still suffers from condensation issues which is the main downside of single skin tents - but in our experience when condensation does occur (usually not that often) it can be managed with a cloth quite easily.
By opting for a single skin tent you generally get much more internal space for a given tent weight and the Lunar Duo is no exception in this respect - its pretty big for two and massive for one person - just look at the head height - which is cleverly extended over a wide corridor down the centre of the tent by two curved poles, one at each end.
It has a bathtub groundsheet with a modest wall height though its perfectly sufficient. To save weight the four corners of the inner tent attach to the guy points on the flysheet with rubber loops rather than having their own pegging loops. The effect of this is to give the floor a floating effect and it will move around if the tent is empty. Apart from weight saving this allows the tent to be pitched higher off the ground for better ventilation.
The porches pitch down to the ground giving good weather shedding performance. The Lunar Duo is a great tent for a trekking holiday where weight is critical.

Do the Six Moon Designs tents and shelters come already seam sealed?
Six Moon Designs currently only offer non-seam sealed tents and tarps to their dealers. Due to the volume of seam sealing for their own direct orders this service is also not currently available for special orders either. SMD are hoping to be able to start offering this service to dealers again in the future.
If you want to seam seal your SMD tent, the product to use is Gear Aid Seam Grip Sil (also known as McNett Silnet but recently rebranded).
