Our Verdict
The Biolite Luci Emergency Solar Lantern with SOS Beacon is built around practicality. At 85g, it packs almost flat, making it easy to keep in a backpack or emergency kit box in the back of the car without much thought. Once inflated, it provides enough light for camp tasks, shelter use and power cuts, while the red light and SOS modes add useful functionality.
The dual charging options are another strength. USB-C charging is quick and convenient, while the solar panel offers welcome backup. The waterproof construction feels reassuringly robust, and the inflatable design has proven to be very durable.
It isn't the brightest lantern available, but that's not its purpose. For emergency preparedness, travel and lightweight camping, it offers a thoughtful balance of packability, durability and dependable lighting.
