A lightweight, well-balanced pack with a refined carry system in a more compact size

With its ultra-lightweight construction and adjustable back system, the Lightning was developed for trekking tours where low weight and high carrying comfort are crucial.
The innovative T-Rex carrying system with reduced contact points ensures effective ventilation and freedom of movement. The back length can be precisely adjusted, while the efficient load transfer to the hip belt ensures a stable and comfortable fit even with a heavier pack weight.
Sophisticated pack volume management allows flexible adjustments. The zig-zag compression straps are easy to adjust and, together with the roll-top fastener, allow variable volume control. They also secure larger equipment such as a sleeping mat or flysheet. Generous mesh outer pockets, zipped pockets on the hip belt and modular attachment points support clear organisation.
Made from ultra-light ripstop nylon with a reinforced polyester base, the Lightning combines minimal weight, durable performance and well thought-out design.
Our Verdict
The Lightning 40 brings the updated design to a smaller, more streamlined option, and it feels well-suited to shorter trips or ultralight kit lists. I am a fan of the move to offer this pack across three sizes, with 60, 50 and 40 litre options, as it makes it easier to choose the right volume without compromising on features. At 1143g, it keeps the weight low while still delivering a structured carry.
The T-Rex carrying system is the standout feature. Built around a central aluminium stay with reduced contact across the back, it improves airflow while maintaining effective load transfer to the hips. Larger hip-belt fins and supportive shoulder straps give it a more stable feel than many ultralight packs, with a noticeable step-up in control when moving over uneven ground.
The adjustable back length helps dial in the fit, making a clear difference in overall comfort. Once set correctly, the pack sits close and stable without feeling restrictive.
Storage is practical and easy to use. The large front mesh-and-fabric pocket adds genuinely useful quick-access space, while the top pocket keeps smaller essentials within reach. Hip belt, zip pocket,s and generous side pockets round things out without overcomplicating the layout.
Compression remains one of the stronger elements. The zig-zag system works well with the roll-top closure, allowing the pack to cinch down neatly when not fully loaded.
