Alpine pants must, like the alpinist, be versatile all-rounders. The Ibex Alpine Pant is protective enough for 4000m peaks through the summer months, but still sufficiently light and breathable for lower altitude objectives and sun-baked glacier crossings.
Two grades of EXOLITE fabric ensure durability and stretch that work in combination with our proven Alpine fit. An adjustable hem accommodates everything from mountain boots on exposed aretes to trainers for long hut approaches.
Our Verdict
At 356g (Medium), the Ibex Alpine Pants feel like a focused softshell option for bigger mountain days where breathability and protection both matter. The mix of EXOLITE 125 throughout the main body and tougher EXOLITE 210 at the knees and seat inspires confidence. It keeps the trousers lighter and cooler than a heavier all-over fabric, while still adding durability where rock, snow and rough ground are more likely to cause wear.
The Alpine fit and articulated knees keep movement clean on steep ground, and the zipped thigh vents are a key feature as far as im concerned. I also like the fully zipped pocket layout for keeping essentials secure.
I am not usually a fan of integrated belts, as I prefer choosing one I know works for me, but this one feels secure. They work best for scrambling, mountaineering and summer alpine use.
