Our Verdict
The Rab Group Shelter 4-6 Person gives a larger party a waterproof, windproof space for rest stops, route planning or emergencies. It can be deployed quickly, with trekking poles used in the roof recesses to add structure and headroom.
Once everyone is inside, the main benefit is getting the group out of the wind and retaining some shared body heat. Waterproof seats keep people off wet ground, while vents and windows help make longer stops more manageable.
At 714g, it is a fairly significant addition to one person’s pack, but that weight is much easier to justify when it provides emergency shelter for a whole group. For group leaders, winter days or anyone regularly heading out with several people, I think the extra security is well worth carrying.
