Lightweight traction for icy trails and winter running
Grivel says
14 steel points light minimal micro crampon for slippery terrain (snow, ice, mud), with versatile rubber binding
Our Verdict
The Grivel Explorer Light Crampons weigh just 201g (Medium) and use 14 short steel points to give extra grip on snow, ice and muddy ground without feeling overly intrusive underfoot.
For me, the low weight is the big attraction. They make sense for winter hiking, trail running and backpacking where you may only need extra traction for part of the route.
The flexible rubber harness is quick to fit and works particularly well with lighter hiking footwear and trail shoes, although fit becomes more important with bulky boots.
These are not full mountaineering crampons, and I would not use them on steep, technical snow or anywhere a slip would have serious consequences. On straightforward icy paths and frozen trails, though, the short spikes and minimal construction give useful grip without making your footwear feel cumbersome.
