Our Verdict
The ExoTi Ultra 40 is a curious mix of cutting-edge and traditional, combining waterproof ULTRA 200 fabric with a rigid external titanium frame. The result is a highly breathable, stable carry that stands apart from softer ultralight designs.
Weight transfer is excellent. The lumbar plate and frame channel heavier loads onto the hips, and the gap between the back panel and pack body encourages airflow in warm weather. The adjustable harness system is more dialled-in than on earlier models, with a wider fit range and easier strap tweaks. At 1280g, it’s not the lightest in its class, but the frame earns its keep with comfort over longer distances and better shape retention.
The materials are generally hardwearing, though the mesh cradle and lower edges may benefit from some reinforcement if you're regularly on rough ground. Side pockets fit bottles securely, but the front mesh feels small for wet kit, and the hipbelt pockets are best reserved for snacks or cords. There are two zipped front pockets, which are ideal for smaller items you want close at hand. However, I would have preferred a larger front mesh pocket.
