This is one of the tents in Wechsel’s ZERO-G LINE. This range offers tents that have extremely good space to weight ratio in a strong and stable design. The fabrics used are very durable and tear resistant yet light enough for backpacking and cycling trips.
Wechsel’s Exogen 3 is a solid choice for those seeking a robust yet lightweight, three-person tent suitable for various conditions. Now upgraded with DAC poles, the tent boasts increased stability while reducing overall weight to just over 2.2kg, making it even more appealing for backpackers and cyclists looking to keep their kit light without compromising durability. The ripstop nylon flysheet, siliconised for enhanced UV protection and tear resistance, holds up well against wind and rain, although seam sealing is still recommended before use in heavy downpours. The Exogen’s freestanding design and cross-pole system, now reinforced with the lighter DAC poles, boost stability further, and the low-cut fly adds additional weather protection. The optional footprint allows the fly to be pitched first for wet pitches, keeping the inner dry—a valuable feature in typical UK conditions.
Inside, the tent remains roomy despite its compact weight. You'll find it comfortable even on longer trips with plenty of space and gear for three occupants. Ventilation is decent, though condensation may occur in humid environments, as with many silicone-coated tents. However, this is easily managed with a quick wipe-down using a microfibre cloth.
While the silicone-coated fabric can be a bit fiddly when pitching, especially with the slippery ties, the Improved DAC poles make setup easier and enhance the tent’s overall sturdiness. Zero-G Line Tents: Seams on Wechsel Zero-G line tents - the outer seams of the silicone impregnated tents can't yet be sealed with tape. These seams are sewn with a cotton coated polyester thread that swells when wet and seals the seam. Before first use we recommend to seal the seams with the sealer provided.
