Our Verdict

At 457g per shoe, the Mammut Ducan III Low GTX sits between a trail shoe and a walking boot, offering more structure and protection than a soft trainer but less ankle bulk. The updated fit offers a little more volume than previous Duncan models, which helps the shoe feel more forgiving on longer days. 

Underfoot, the high-rebound EVA and Flextron plate provide a stable feel on rough paths, while the Vibram XS Trek sole adds confidence on wet rock, mud, and mixed trail. The GORE-TEX lining and raised rand make sense for UK conditions. Best for walkers wanting a low-cut hiking shoe with cushioning, grip and protection for rocky trails and multi-day routes.
