A roomy freestanding solo tent with clever extra stability when the weather turns.

Our Verdict
The CrossPeak 1 gets the basics right, but what stands out most to me is how spacious it feels for a one-person tent. At 223cm long, 81cm wide at the head, and 107cm high, there is enough room for a long, wide sleeping mat without it feeling cramped. At 6ft 1in, I can sit up on an inflated mat with plenty of headroom above me.
One of the coolest design details is the trekking-pole reinforcement. More solo tents are now using trekking poles to add stability in bad weather, but they often only make provision for the vestibule side. Here, Hyperlite has added an internal attachment point for the second pole. Even with a wide mat in place, there is enough space for the pole without it interfering with your sleeping setup.
Ventilation is also well thought out. Large sections of perimeter mesh allow plenty of airflow, while the bathtub floor can be raised for extra protection in poor weather or lowered to increase ventilation. The mesh section along the side can even be used to hold damp clothing in a pinch, although filling it will inevitably restrict some airflow.
Pitching is straightforward thanks to the freestanding DAC pole structure and external pole sleeves. The tent body weighs 485g, with the poles bringing the total to 820g, which is very competitive for a fully freestanding shelter of this size.
It is worth noting that tent pegs are not included, so you will need to factor those into both the packed weight and what you carry.
For me, the combination of usable interior space, simple pitching and the option to significantly reinforce the structure with trekking poles makes this an incredibly interesting, well-thought-out tent.
