Our Verdict
The Black Diamond Stella-R Headlamp weighs 74g and puts out up to 350 lumens, but what I like most is its broad 30-degree beam and softer ambient lighting.
It feels almost half lantern, half headtorch. You still get a normal wearable light, but the wide beam and warmer campfire mode suit cooking, sorting kit, or sitting around camp better than picking out distant terrain. If, like me, you prefer a more diffused light inside your tent, you get the best of both worlds.
The built-in USB-C rechargeable battery keeps things simple, while the two large buttons are easy to operate.
The lack of tilt is the main drawback for me, particularly when working close up, or nipping for a midnight wee.
