Our Verdict
The Cosmo DFR feels like a straightforward headlamp designed around the kind of use most backpackers actually need. It is light enough at 82g, easy to operate, and gives you 350 lumens at full power without adding a lot of unnecessary complexity.
One of its more practical features is the Dual-Fuel setup. The included BD 1500 rechargeable battery charges via USB-C, but the lamp will also run on three AAA batteries, which gives you a simple backup option on longer trips.
Maximum output is 350 lumens, with a 175-lumen medium setting and 6-lumen low mode, giving enough range for campsite use, walking after dark and general navigation. At 82g including the battery, it remains reasonably light without feeling stripped back.
The dual-button interface is one of the better changes. Switching between white and red light is simpler, while Mode Memory means it returns to your chosen brightness rather than forcing you to cycle through settings again.
