Our Verdict
The Capilene Cool Ultra Shirt strips things back to the essentials: very low weight, rapid drying and a fit that feels easier to wear than Patagonia’s older Capilene Cool Lightweight pieces. The textured knit is what really stands out. It moves moisture quickly and feels noticeably airy during sustained effort, especially once there is some airflow moving through it.
I also think the regular fit broadens its appeal. The older Lightweight range could feel quite restrictive, whereas this sits more naturally as a hiking and running layer. The trade-off is durability.
For fast hiking, running and hot-weather backpacking, though, I think this is one of the strongest high-output synthetic tees currently available.
